Madonna Just Wore Amal Clooney’s Seriously Sexy Fall Boots

If there’s one thing you can count on every fall, it’s the re-emergence of black boots: The shoes are timeless, go with everything, and can elevate any outfit in a matter of seconds. But this year, the trend is a little less straightforward because there are so many ways to approach it. You can keep it simple with a riding boot, copy Laura Dern’s Western-inspired style, opt for Natalie Portman’s cool-girl moto boots, or go sexy with the skin-tight knee-highs Madonna just wore. I’m favoring the latter.

The singer wore the hottest version of the classic fall shoe. The leather boot hugged her calf almost like it was sock, and featured a sharp, pointed toe and even sharper heel that took her all black look’s sexiness to another level. And while Madonna leaned into the edginess of the shoe, other stars, including Amal Clooney, Eva Mendes, and Taylor Swift, have used them in a more approachable way, using the shoes to bring a little sultriness to classic outfits.

For those of us with wider calves, skin-tight boots can be a little tricky. So rather than relying on leather to achieve this look—though chic, it won’t give me the wiggle room I need—I’m considering Newbella’s stretchy knitted boots. According to fans of the shoes, that stretchiness not only makes them “great for people with larger calves,” but also “very comfortable.”

Modatope makes one of my favorite lookalikes. These boots are sexy without going overboard: They’re slim but not glove-like, and that toe is about as soft as a point can get. The tall, thin heel definitely packs a punch, but because everything else has been simplified, it doesn’t feel like too much.
