Loafers Are a Hollywood Fall Shoe Trend, and Styles Start at $35

News

For the past month, I’ve really only found myself reaching for one pair of shoes, and it’s a style celebrities are also wearing on repeat. Loafers are, once again, in the running to be fall’s ‘It’ shoe, with Katie Holmes, Zoe Saldaña, and Scarlett Johansson all rocking the look.

As a fan of the easy-but-elevated style, this isn’t totally shocking to me; IMO, it’s fall’s most wearable footwear. When I traveled over the weekend, it was one of only two shoes I packed because it’s so comfortable and goes with everything, something stars have proven time and time again, too. Holmes and Saldaña showed how it can make even a classic pair of jeans chic, while Johansson gave a masterclass in dressing them up when she paired her loafers with sheer socks and a mini dress.

I say this from experience: Loafers are the versatile shoes you’ll find yourself wearing all fall long. Shop styles from G.H. Bass, Coach, and more, starting at just $35.

9 Loafers for Fall

LifeStride Madison Loafers

Amazon

Shop the trend for less at Amazon, where you can grab LifeStride’s simple, sleek Madison loafers for just $35. These are designed to look like patent leather, with a subtle shine that makes the shoes look far more expensive than they are. What’s best, though, is that shoppers say these are so cushioned, they’re almost cloud-like, with teachers reporting that they’re comfortable and supportive enough to stand in all day.

Madewell the Grayson Penny Loafers

Madewell

I always love a croc-embossed loafer; the texture can instantly make the most basic outfit look more exciting and expensive. Not only does this Madewell style have that, but it also features fall’s hottest color. Burgundy provides the perfect pop of color because it’s still pretty neutral; I mean, Johansson wore her merlot pair with a pastel floral dress and sandy gray blazer, and they looked great.

G.H. Bass Esther Kiltie Weejuns Loafers

Nordstrom

My go-to shoes right now are G.H. Bass’s Whitney loafers, and I’m wearing them so much that I want another pair. But rather than buying the same shoe, I’m considering grabbing the brand’s sophisticated Esther Kiltie loafers. These have a tassel, fringed leather, and moccasin toe, all of which give the shoes a more masculine feel. To balance that, I’d pair them with a mini skirt, sheer tights, and tube socks.
