Ayo Edebiri Turns Character Dressing On Its Head at “Inside Out 2” Premiere in Bottega Veneta

News

Ayo Edebiri will this week make her debut in Pixar’s Inside Out 2: an animated movie set in the mind of a young child – populated by various marble-eyed minions who control emotions like joy and sadness and anger and disgust – that will perhaps undo centuries of research into the complex mysteries of mental health. Edebiri will voice the role of an excitable backroom worker meant to represent envy.

Othello be damned. At the film’s Los Angeles premiere, the actor dressed in a custom iteration of a suit that first surfaced in Bottega Veneta’s pre-fall 2024 lookbook – a grain de poudre blazer and matching shorts cut from the same aquamarine hue as Edebiri’s computer-animated henchman. She wore that look with a celadon silk shirt and the brand’s wipe-clean Cha-Cha mules. The sweet color palette said it all: Edebiri has tamed the noxious, green-eyed monsters that pop culture has historically used to symbolize envious schemers.

“I think a lot of that root emotion is actually adoration,” the actor explained on the red carpet. “And so I’m trying to come from that place of positivity to kind of spin the idea of the character on its head.” People (or at least adults) will glean more about the nuances of human emotion from watching a single episode of The Bear – in which Edebiri plays an ambitious sous chef working in the psychologically-confronting landscape of a male-dominated kitchen. “She’s going to feel a lot [of emotions] so tune in,” she said of the show’s upcoming third season. “I’m excited for people to see the episode that I directed. I love the crew and I love our cast and so getting to work with them on that level was really moving.”
