Will Euphoria season 3 ever actually happen? It’s the million-dollar question, and not even the cast is sure anymore. After season 2 ended in early 2022, Euphoria was immediately renewed at HBO, but more than two years later, fans are still waiting — and it looks like they’ll be waiting for quite a while.
Back in March 2024, HBO confirmed Euphoria season 3 had been delayed indefinitely and that, as a result, they would be “allowing the in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.” Though HBO is still hopeful the show will get a 2025 release, the rest of the world isn’t as convinced.
At first, delays affecting Euphoria season 3 were pinned on the simultaneous Hollywood strikes. But even after the WGA and SAG-AFTRA reached agreements, there seems to be no finalized scripts for season 3.
According to an exclusive report by Variety, “No one at HBO is at all sure a third season of Euphoria will ever come to fruition given the disparate visions for the show’s next chapter.” Zendaya reportedly didn’t like Sam Levinson’s original script for the season, which seemed to center heavily on Nate and Cassie, and the show also had to undergo rewrites to navigate Angus Cloud’s death. (Other rejected script variants included Rue working as a private detective and sober twentysomething Rue becoming a pregnancy surrogate.)
According to Variety, HBO will get back to the cast of Euphoria by October 1, 2024, “with a solid plan to begin filming in 2025,” but how are the actors feeling about filming season 3 more than three years after the last episode aired?
