When it comes to the romance between Emily in Paris stars Ashley Park and Paul Forman, it would seem that Lily Collins knew it was going to happen before they did.
In a recent interview with E! News, both Collins and Park divulged more information on the behind-the-scenes chemistry between Park and her partner Paul Forman that eventually led to a real-life romance. The actors are currently promoting season 4 of the popular Netflix show, as part 1 was released on August 15.
Park, who plays Emily’s best friend Mindy in the show, confirmed her relationship with Forman in January after she was hospitalized for septic shock — a year and a half after the pair actually got together. Both Forman and Park shared photos of one another on their Instagram pages at the time.
“Yeah, it was so obvious,” Collins told E! about their budding romance. “I think I knew it before she knew it. And then I also knew it when she wasn’t admitting it. And then she also then admitted that she knew that I knew.”
Forman plays Mindy’s love interest Nicolas de Leon, and first appeared on Emily in Paris in season 3. In the show, Nicholas is the heir and executive of the expansive conglomerate JVMA that Emily is trying to work with before they realize they both know Mindy.
“They were just so sweet together and I just know a look when I see one,” Collins continued. “And I also know her.”
Park agreed that Collins had a feeling something was going on before there really was something going on. She told E! that “nothing was happening” and that their relationship started purely platonic.
“We just loved working together and as a collaborator, I love working with him and as a scene partner,” Park said. “And so what happened with Lily was that she called it out first to me and I said no, that’s not happening. And then when things did really blossom in a big way, I was like ‘Oh my God, I have to tell her now.’”
After revealing she experienced some health issues while on vacation earlier this year, Park thanked Forman for being by her side during her “scary” situation in a sweet Instagram caption.
“Grateful most of all to [Paul Forman] for being unconditionally by my side through all this,” she wrote at the time. “I love you Paul. More than I can ever say.”
Forman also shared a photo of Ashley Park, writing in the caption, “By your side, no matter what.” Park said that she was especially “grateful” that Forman was able to return for season 4 after her health scare.
